On behalf of our community, I am pleased to welcome you to the 16th largest city in America. Louisville is a place where
North meets South and East meets West, so we pride ourselves on having something for everyone. You will find we are a friendly
and more vibrant city than ever before.
Since Louisville was transformed by its merger of city and county governments in 2003, we've been working hard - as a
government and as a city - to continue to improve the level of services we provide and the quality of life we offer to people
who call Louisville home.
You don't have to travel far to see why our community has been named one of the best places to relocate a family. From
our downtown's newest entertainment destination, 4th Street Live!, and the Muhammad Ali Center, to Louisville Slugger Museum
and world-renowned home of the Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs, you will have many ways to enjoy Louisville year-round. For
those interested in the arts, Louisville has gained international acclaim and is one of only 12 U.S. cities with a professional
opera, ballet, theatre, orchestra and children's theatre. And for history buffs, the Frazier Historical Arms Museum and countless
historic neighborhoods and architectural gems show how Louisville embraces its past and preserves it for others to enjoy.
Waterfront Park, a reclaimed jewel along the Ohio River's edge, has received international recognition for its inviting
design and use of space. Phase III will complete the 85-acre park, with a pedestrian link across the Ohio River between Louisville
and Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Our community also is becoming a leader for business growth. For example, Louisville was just ranked 9th as one of the
Top 20 Hot Headquarters Cities for the 21st Century, by Business Facilities. And last year, Louisville was ranked 20th in
the nation as a desirable point for business expansion or relocation by Expansion Management magazine, and 28th on Inc. magazine's
25 Top Places to Do Business in the U.S. We have a growing biomedical and research center, located in a 20-square block area,
with some of the finest hospitals in the country. Our public school system has been named one of the best in America. And
we have several top-quality universities and colleges.
In Louisville, you will find a thriving business community, outstanding arts and entertainment offerings, great quality
of life, incomparable neighborhoods and parks and affordable living and housing options. In short, I think you'll find that
Louisville is a great place to call home. I hope you will visit Louisville and find out for yourself all the we have to offer
in
our hometown.
